                    NOTABLE WEATHER EVENTS

July 4 1980 The 1980 record string of 17 straight days with a high
temperature of 100 degrees or higher began, with the Downtown Airport
reporting 103 degrees.The readings were 103-103-105-106-105-109-109-
108-103-108-109-109-102-104-108-108-106.
July 4 1984 Independence Day was a soggy one as showers and thunderstorms 
produced 3.63" of rain.
July 6 1986 Showers and thunderstorms deluged the area with torrential
rain during the morning hours. The 5.08" at KCI is the record July rainfall
for any July day since 1888.
July 9 1992 The temperature reached 92 before storms cooled off the city.
The 92 was also the high for the month of July 1992.
July 10 1993 Up to 10 inches of rain fell over parts of the industrial
West bottoms and high water came into Kemper arena. Parkville and Riverside
came under attack as a Missouri River levee broke.
July 12 1951 The Kaw River flood hit its peak, with extensive flooding in
the industrial districts.
July 13 1954 The afternoon high of 112 degrees is the record for July since
observations began in 1888.
July 14 1954 The average temperature for the 24 hours was 98 degrees and
this was before home airconditioning!
July 16 1927 A tornado hit the South Park area of Kansas City,KS shortly
before 5 PM killing four persons.
July 27 1993 The Missouri River hit a record crest of 48.8 feet at the
Hannibal bridge.
